Spooky verses rhyme in time
I think you did quite well
Bats that stop right on a dime
Draw blood to cast their spell
Hi, Pearl! My cat brings home
rabbits and birds fairly frequently.
It’s usually a gory sight, for she never
finishes eating everything on her plate.
I can’t remember ever seeing a bat flying
in these parts where I live, so I was shocked
when I found a dead one lying upside down
on my driveway one morning. I’m not sure if
the cat drug it home. It was in A-1 condition.
Beady little eyes and a whole set of sharp teeth
it had. The wings are veined and rubbery.
They look to be an accident of Nature.
Very, very weird creatures freak me out.
And you want to make friends with yours? Oh, my!

Nice. I dig the rhyming. It reminds me of a spell. My mom used to say they’re more afraid of us than we are of them. I never bought that one. I don’t even like them as Halloween decorations.

When I wrote it I heard the spell thing too.
I do like them, especially because real bats eat heaps of bugs! But like spiders, I like them to have their own space, as in not my space.
And those Halloween decorations? I’ve always thought real bats look like those rubber bats. Life imitating art? Or…?
